I attended the British Racing School at Newmarket, at the age of sixteen, with the ambition of becoming a jockey. In 1996, after completing the intensive 9-week course, I was posted to Simon Dow at Epsom - The Home of the Derby. Unfortunately, I was a fast growing teenager and my 8st was increasing by the day. I did manage to keep it down long enough to have 20 rides on the flat as an amateur, but after putting up overweight a couple of times, I knew deep down my hopes of being a professional jockey were fading. I wanted to keep the dream alive, and rode out whenever I could but, it was then that a career in the City beckoned. Fast forward to 2020 and I am now lucky enough to be a successful racehorse owner and manager of Fat Jockey Racing. We began with a group of friends and colleagues, who were interested in ownership, but found the costs of sole ownership prohibitive. So we grouped together and prepared to start our journey. I remembered what a hardworking and honest trainer Simon is, and as the Yearling Sales were approaching, I called him to help us purchase our first horse that we would own 100% of.
